The event weekend begins on Friday with the Hemmings Rally, which will depart the Saratoga Automobile Museum promptly at noon. Open to all types of collectible vehicles, the escorted Rally will head north on secondary roads to the shores of Lake George, New York, where it will stop at Lake George Shoreline. Though anyone is free to join the Rally, registered guests will board The Adirondac for a private 1-1/2-hour tour of the famed body of water. A fully catered lunch is included during the tour. After, guests will be able to visit the Lake George area at their leisure for the duration of the afternoon.
On Saturday is the Cruise-In Spectacular: an all-makes show that’s open to all types of collectable cars, trucks and motorcycles, including muscle cars, street rods, imported exotics, sports cars and classic cars. Judges will hand out 18 awards in all at the conclusion of the cruise-in. Pre-registration is not required.
The Concours banquet will be held on Saturday evening at the Gideon Putnam Resort, commencing with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. During the evening, world-renowned automotive designer J Mays will deliver his keynote address. Mays worked as Design Director for Audi AG prior to beginning his 16-year tenure as Group Vice President of Design at Ford Motor Company. Mays’s design influence is recognized throughout the industry, on vehicles including the VW New Beetle, the Audi TT and the 2005 Ford Mustang. Mays also led design work on the all-new 2015 Mustang before his retirement from Ford last year.
The weekend’s premier event, the Concours d’Elegance, will be held on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. As has become a Hemmings Concours custom, the event will focus on noteworthy automotive anniversaries, as well as on both traditional and non-traditional classes.
There will be six featured marques for 2014, with Dodge, in celebration of the division’s centennial, being especially worthy of note. Organized on July 17, 1914, the first production vehicles emerged from the Dodge assembly plant on November 14. On display will be a wide range of models built, from the company’s inception through the 1975 model year. Also honored at this year’s Concours will be the anniversary of Pontiac’s GTO, the car credited with taking Detroit’s performance market to a new and unprecedented level of all-out street/strip excitement in 1964.
These classes will be accompanied by others celebrating Lincoln Continentals through 1973, as well as Alfa Romeos. All air-cooled Volkswagens and all types of Fire Trucks will also be honored. These six featured marques will be joined by six classes Hemmings features at the Concours annually, headlined by Full Classics as recognized by the CCCA, as well as non-performance American models, American Muscle cars, European cars, Vintage Trucks and Preservation Vehicles. Guests and invitees alike will also have the opportunity to visit the Saratoga Automobile Museum throughout the weekend, which will have on display a wide variety of Ford Mustangs in celebration of the model’s 50th anniversary.
Emceeing the Concours weekend will be Ed Lucas. Most recently recognized for his work with the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance since its 1975 inception, Lucas is also a renowned author, is a past Director and Chief Judge of the Classic Car Club of America, and was an expert commentator at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction for 13 years.
